Concord-Carlisle High School is offering grief counseling after a car crash on Monday, April 21, that killed three students from the school. A fourth student is in critical condition.
The crash happened in Florida, where 18-year-olds Jimmy McIntosh and Hannah Wasserman died at the scene. A third student, Maisey O’Donnell, later passed away from her injuries.
Superintendent Laurie Hunter said, “Their loss will be deeply felt by our school community, as well as by many families in Carlisle and Concord.” She also mentioned that O’Donnell was an organ donor and her family hopes this will bring some meaning to the tragedy.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the crash took place at 9:28 p.m. on Highway 98 in Inlet Beach, Walton County. The students were in an SUV when it collided with a tractor-trailer making a U-turn. McIntosh, the driver, and Wasserman, the front-seat passenger, died at the scene. The other two students were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The fourth student, Lauren Costa, is still in critical condition.
Hunter asked students not to plan any events to honor the students without first consulting their families.
Grief counseling will be available at the school on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon and again on Monday when students return from spring break. The community is coming together to support the families and friends affected by this tragedy.
