MATTAPAN, MA – Four individuals were injured in a violent incident overnight in the Mattapan neighborhood, involving both a shooting and a stabbing. Authorities confirmed that the suspect involved has been taken into custody, and an investigation is underway.

The chaotic scene unfolded around 2:30 AM when police responded to multiple reports of gunshots and a stabbing in the area. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered the four victims, who had sustained varying degrees of injury. Authorities have not released the names or ages of the victims, but they were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Their conditions are reportedly stable, though one victim remains in serious but non-life-threatening condition.

“Upon our arrival, it was clear that the situation was extremely dangerous, and we immediately worked to secure the area and provide assistance to the victims,” said Boston Police Commissioner William Evans. “We are thankful that no one was killed, and our thoughts are with the victims as they recover from this traumatic experience.”

The incident took place in a busy part of Mattapan, raising concerns among residents about the safety of the area. Early reports suggest that the altercation may have started as a dispute between the suspect and the victims, although the motive remains unclear.

“We heard shouting and then the sounds of gunshots,” said one witness, who asked to remain anonymous. “It was chaotic, and we were just trying to get out of the way. I’m glad it wasn’t worse, but it’s terrifying to think something like this can happen so close to home.”

Officers quickly apprehended the suspect at the scene, and authorities have confirmed that the individual is now in custody. The police have not yet disclosed the identity of the suspect or provided further details on the charges they may face.

“We are still piecing together the events that led to this incident, and we are committed to holding those responsible accountable,” said Evans. “Our detectives are working tirelessly to gather more information and determine the exact sequence of events.”

As of now, the motive for the shooting and stabbing remains under investigation. Police are reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses to gain more insight into the altercation that led to the violence. Community leaders have expressed concerns about the recent uptick in violence in the area, and they are calling for more efforts to ensure the safety of residents.

“This kind of violence is unacceptable in our community,” said local activist and Mattapan resident Tanya Williams. “We need to work together to ensure that everyone feels safe, and we will continue to support law enforcement as they work to bring justice to those affected by this tragedy.”

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Boston Police Department.
